News, February 2012
The Squadron has
been extremely active in 2012 as officers and cadets have geared up for an expansion
of the unit's size, scope and activity level. Existing cadets have worked successfully
to attain training, education and advancement of their own rank and grade, and
also to initiate a recruitment drive for new cadets. In coming weeks, the Squadron
will be making visits to local schools, libraries, and municipal facilities
throughout the unit's geographic service area.
Command officers have heightened the Squadron's engagement with the community,
and have held positive and productive meetings with County Commissioners, Municipal
Mayors, School Board officials, City Managers, and Department Heads of municipal
and county departments. Opportunities for the Cadets to obtain additional leadership
training and community service experience are being developed.
The Squadron's Cadets and the unit's Drum Corps opened an International Martial
Arts Exhibition and Salute to America's Veterans on February 19, 2012, the Squadron's
Color Guard will be opening an upcoming meeting of the Miami Beach City Commission.
On April 29, 2012, the Squadron will visit and tour an LHD of the United States
Navy as part of Fleet Week operations at Port Everglades (http://www.naval-technology.com/projects/wasp/).
Travel to and training at air shows, military bases, the Kennedy Space Center,
and other exciting activities are currently being planned. Today is a great
time to get involved!
New Cadets and Senior Members are welcome, please contact us and plan to attend
an upcoming meeting.
Miami Beach Cadet Sqdn. presents Colors for Pearl Harbor Ceremony.
Miami Beach, December 3, 2005
The Miami Beach Cadet Sqdn. Color Guard presents the Colors for the 7th annual "Sand in our Boots" Pearl Harbor Ceremony.
Organized by the Colony Hotel, the city of Miami Beach, the American Legion, and with the attendance of local dignitaries, the ceremony commemorated the anniversary of the "day that will live in infamy", the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The event is called "Sand in our Boots" because between 1941 and 1943, American Officers were trained in the very same beaches in preparation for their deployment overseas. Thousands of service men practiced their basic drill and ceremonies, along with advanced beach landings and maneuvers in preparation for the attacks on D-day and the War of the Pacific. The ceremony was brief but significant, as we had in attendance the very same men and women who answered the call of service to their nation, wore the uniform and serve to remind us today that Freedom is not free and that Liberty is not without sacrifice.
The members of the Miami Beach Cadet Sqdn. Color Guard, are C/SMSgt. Sara Umana, C/TSgt. Adrian Amadiz, C/TSgt. Michael David and C/Amn Brian Amadiz. This team is of particular distinction, C/TSgt. Amadiz is a National Cadet Competition CG champion, and C/SMSgt. Umana is a FLWG Cadet Competition Drill Team champion.
The Miami Beach Cadet Sqdn. Color Guard teams participate in several local and county-wide ceremonies and activities, and has been honored with distinctions for its service by many organizations such as the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Cuban American Veterans association and also the local schools and organizations. Please see our homepage at: http://www.mbcscap.com for more images of this and other ceremonies and activities of our Squadron.

Miami Beach, July 6 2005
Cadet Master Sergeant Sara Umana, from the Miami Beach Cadet Sqdn. completed
her participation on the National Flight Academy, power track at Camp Ashland,
Nebraska this June 30. C/MSgt. Umana culminated this activity by earning her
solo wings! In recognition to this achievement, the Ninety-Nines organization,
represented by Ms. Tamra Sheffman presented C/MSgt. Umana with a commendation
certificate, and a prospective package for her inclusion in the Future Women
Pilots program. They also gave her the complete information and a very warm
encouragement to apply to their several scholarship programs.
The Ninety-Nines is an all-female organization started by aviation pioneer Amelia
Earhart back in 1929. Currently they have over 5,000 members spread out in the
far corners of the world. They are comprised of professional pilots, recreational
pilots, instructors, technicians and mechanics. Just this past week they completed
an Air Race Classic out of Lafayette, Indiana.
We are very proud of the many achievements of C/MSgt. Umana and grateful to
the Ninety-Nines organization for their help and support in recognizing this
outstanding young woman and CAP Cadet.
